Fr. Lawman's Reflection after the first weekend of Masses at Rabbouni

A Word from Fr. Lawman

Brothers and sisters, I sit in prayer today and tears are running down my cheeks. I am a manly man who does not shed a tear easily, but sometimes when we sit back and look at what God is doing I cannot but cry a little. Cry tears of joy when God begins to call things into being which were never there. I shed tears of Joy as I hear God call into being a faith community and asks me to lead it. This past weekend was beautiful, I was very very nervous on Saturday as we gathered to pray together. One would think I had never led a community in prayer before, but first times are always tough. When I saw over a hundread people gather on a Saturday evening ready to pray, I got a little shaken. When I saw a brother priest ready to walk down the aisle and concelebrate, I was shaking in my boots because at that time I knew that God is calling something bigger than I thought into being. Sunday came along and fifty to sixty people again gathered in a little church ready to hear and celebrate God’s presence, I knew then that something great is happening here at Rabbouni. Again how appropiate is the word of God that we read today at mass. In the first reading we read the story of creation, God looks at a formless void, good for nothing wasteland and God sees in that formless wasteland something beautiful. God begins to call things into being from nothing and before long we have a beautiful world created from nothing. God says “Let there be a dome in the middle of the waters, to separate one body of water from the other” And so it happened… I wonder what God is calling me to become this day, I wonder what that creative spirit of God is going to make of my formless void this day. If I know anything about this God, I think he/she will say “Let Lawman arise and become my holy servant, and feed my poor, let Lawman arise and learn to forgive, let Lawman arise and learn to love even when it is most difficult to do so, let my children arise and become like me…AND SO IT HAPPENED. Dear friends God is forever creating us, calling us into being, may we arise this day as we receive his word and answer that call. The call to become like God in all things.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and rekindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your spirit and they shall be created. And you shall renew the face of the earth.

Be a new creation this day in Christ, a creation that has been called into being by our God.
