Mark 2:18-21

One day when John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting, some people came to Jesus and said to him, ‘Why is it that John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not?’

These guys were not just fasting. They made sure that everyone saw it and felt it. Before long this beautiful practice of fasting was being used as a tool to hit people with. And the reason for fasting was lost. The intention of it has always been connected to feasting. Whenever you fast, ask who will feast. When we fast, we take the money and the food we saved and give to the church or less fortunate. But if no one is benefiting from your fast and you become meaner than a King Cobra, please eat.

If you go to church and others feel your wrath, stop churching. It is not helping you or those around you. Our passage invites us to reflect on what and why we do the things we do. Love you.
