Luke 14:12-14
Jesus said to his host, one of the leading Pharisees, ‘When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not ask your friends, brothers, relations or rich neighbours, for fear they repay your courtesy by inviting you in return.
Already by the first century something in the church was happening. This community of faith was slowly becoming a home for others while still others were just tolerated. The author of the gospel today throws in a pitch for the poor. For those constantly left out. He asks that we have a preferential option for those who don’t get invites.
This is a wonderful and difficult time of the year as we go into the holidays. There are some amongst us who will feel very blessed and others who will be very lonely. Let’s include the one who can’t pay us back when we prepare for thanksgiving and Christmas. Love you.
