Matthew 19:23-30

Jesus said to his disciples, ‘I tell you solemnly, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Yes, I tell you again, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.’

I wonder what he would say about a rich church? Is it hard for it to recognize the coming of the kingdom?

There is another passage that comes to mind here for me. Remember these words “come to me you who have heavy burdens and I will give you rest.” Today I think we are invited to become aware of the “other stuff” we carry around. If we look close enough in our own lives we all need to let go of stuff and be filled only with God’s presence. The rich young man went away sad for he had many possessions he could not let go. Do you think it is time to put the hurt down? Do you think it is time to let go of self obsession? What is your “thing” that you are rich in but robs you of life?
