Luke 16:1-8

Jesus said to his disciples:

‘There was a rich man and he had a steward denounced to him for being wasteful with his property. He called for the man and said, “What is this I hear about you? Draw me up an account of your stewardship because you are not to be my steward any longer.” Then the steward said to himself, “Now that my master is taking the stewardship from me, what am I to do? Dig? I am not strong enough. Go begging? I should be too ashamed. Ah, I know what I will do to make sure that when I am dismissed from office there will be some to welcome me into their homes.”

Mike Tyson is believed to have said that “everyone has a plan until they are punched in the face.” Are you one of the millions of Americans who feels like you have been hit with a Tyson blow to the gut? Are you struggling to get up because your world now is upside down? Being a Parish Priest is tough in these polarized days. I have parishioners who are over the moon and screaming with joy saying“we told you so”and I have parishioners who are trying to get a breath saying “how can this be?” President elect Trump is about to win the popular vote too.

Listen, it is just a matter of time before any one of us is punched in the face. The question is how we respond. My yoga teacher always says that “you can do difficult things.” So …… what is the difficult thing you are being called to do in these times.

And if you are one of the millions rejoicing I ask you the same “what is the difficult thing you are called to do?” We all could learn something.
